How to get to Santa Marta:

By air:

From overseas, most airlines will fly you through Bogota. If you are not spending a couple of days in Bogota, try to avoid spending one night only and check for connections on the same day. Remember Bogota is cold…and rainy! Santa Marta is tropical and warm…! Airlines traveling to Santa Marta are Avianca, Aires, Copa and Aero Republica. We recommend Avianca…! The other best option is to travel to Barranquilla. You can find international connections from Barranquilla to New York, Miami, Madrid, Panama and other cities in Europe and the USA. Barranquilla is located 90 km south of Santa Marta. A Taxi will charge approximately USD 50 per person to bring you to Santa Marta.

By Road:

From Bogota it takes approximately 12 hours. It is a good way to see part of Colombia but roads can be bad particularly during the rainy season (September through December). Buses from Bogota, Barranquilla, and Cartagena are easily available and include both luxury express lines or door to door services in mini-buses.
